Artists, galleries and quaint Coffee shops and restaurants are scattered around and “local is lekker” is the order of the day.
The Posh Junk Shop with it`s teeny book shop, the Pipe Maker And the little Museum, also selling fascinating books, are well worth visiting.
The evening Organ Recital at 6pm in the NGK Kerk is truly an experience to cherish, especially a conversation with Dr Noel-Jean Kriel, our organist.
Succulents abound and the autumn, winter and spring climate is generally wonderful for veld meanders, mountain walks and hiking, bird and butterfly watching. The evenings being cold and dry and the days crisp and invigorating. Summer can get quite hot in the daytime, but a cool breeze blowing through the Gamka Valley makes the evenings very pleasant especially for star gazing, we have two keen astrologers in town with their own telescopes.
Calitzdorp in summertime is regarded as “ The Fruit Bowl” of the Little Karoo with apricots, grapes, peaches, plums and melons, to name but a few, in abundance.
